Changing Perspective

Artist Statement: Changing Perspective by Sam Arnold

“Changing Perspective” is an exploration of landscapes and the power of imagination by artist Sam Arnold. In this captivating show, Arnold invites viewers to witness a myriad of perspectives on landscapes, each infused with her personal journey and the way she envisions herself within those places.

Chronic pain and illness have brought unforeseen disruptions to Arnold’s travel plans and cherished moments with loved ones. However, these challenges have also sparked a profound creative process, transforming the act of crafting her own landscapes into a therapeutic endeavor. Through her art, she seeks to transcend physical limitations and transport herself into boundless realms.

Through her work, Arnold seeks to not only captivate the viewer but also foster a shared experience of reflection and empathy. “Changing Perspective” invites us to reimagine our own connection with landscapes, embracing the transformative power of imagination and the healing potential it holds.

Jackson Junge 10 x 10 Show

  • Jackson Junge Gallery (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

The Jackson Junge Gallery presents TEN by TEN, their sixth exhibition of the 2022 season, and very first open-submission group show since the COVID-19 pandemic. The exhibition includes over 100 Chicago based artists. It serves as a celebration of the artists that have worked with the gallery over the past thirteen years along with welcoming new talents.

TEN by TEN is an exhibition for the artists and for the people, with a wide variety of styles and works by both established and emerging artists. In hopes of inspiring new creation, the only prompt given to TEN by TEN artists was a size restriction; everything must be exactly 10”x10” in terms of width and height and be able to hang on the gallery wall with a wire. Most of the pieces in TEN by TEN are new works made in 2022 and range from traditional painting, to sculpture, to quilting and photography.

Artists:
Therese Kuempel - Her jewelry is hand-made in her Chicago studio/home where she aims to create well-crafted designs that are both unique and empowering to the wearer. Designed with strong, clean lines, her jewelry is inspired by a juxtaposition of organic formations and geometric shapes. She aims suspend the wearer in an ethereal place: a place between the impermanent, delicate organic and the impenetrable, industrial qualities of metal.

(wired) - Bold. Strong. Beautiful. Aware. (wired) jewelry and couture makes a statement. Marrying aesthetics and environment, the results empower and inspire. Founder Melissa Kolbusz designs handmade wearable artwork entirely from reclaimed and surplus industrial material. Salvaging components, such as colorful alternator wire, tubing and transistors, (wired) fashions one-of-a-kind and limited edition works with designs on the future.

Allison Mooney - She is a jewelry designer and metal-smith from Chicago, Illinois with a focus on modern, minimalist metal work. Allison works with sterling silver, gold fill and rose gold fill predominately, and she loves to play with oxidizing sterling for ombre effects.

Laura Garza - Each piece is handmade and designed by Laura Garza in Chicago. Inspired by nature, travels and culture, she creates what she loves, pieces that are raw and earthy with a creative twist of modern and simple. The metals are formed to be a natural part of the selected stones. She works with lost wax casting, reticulation and her new collections include enameling.

SKP - Visual artist based in Chicago, IL. Specializes in printmaking, drawing, painting, and on the side- jewelry.

Paige Quinn-Vasic – Created Handmade Felt Sushi Jewelry as part of her growing fiber arts practice.

Jennifer Mosley - Handmade jewelry from items she has found on the streets of Chicago including paint peels from murals, rubber tubing, semi-precious and gemstones, ancient glowing stones, glass, and mixed metals.

Emily Breidenbach – Makes 100% wool naturally dyed and handmade wall weavings. She offers a variety of sizes from 9'x12' all the way up to 4''x3''. Emily dyes all the wool using botanical materials such as flowers, roots, and minerals.

Samantha Arnold – Hand painted jewelry and greeting cards created from her original paintings. Samantha works primarily with acrylic paints, watercolor and mixed media in an abstract, almost cartoon-like, style.
